Good Friday just got (even) Better…

Jamie & Ed, Neil Mackenzie & Darren Long (Manchester)
… as Cambridge defeated Manchester in Division 1 of the National League. This means they win the round-robin stage and will host a (or the) final. Ed was in supreme form as Darren Long was swept away after a tight 1st set by a combination of power and retrieval. Jamie also seemed to be cruising through the 2nd set (prompting a certain professional to be say the Doubles would be starting in 10 minutes…) before Neil Mackenzie struck (literally) back to take it. Cool as ever Jamie tuned down the power and turned up the finesse to win in three sets, complete his undefeated year and confirm his MVP status for the Division. (The Doubles didn’t seem to be going as planned when I left). Congratulations!
Preview….Cambridge take on Manchester in National League Division 1 on Friday 25th March. There should be some high quality matches on show. Starting at 2pm, Ed Kay (3) will take on Manchester’s pro Darren Long (1). Darren got the better of Ed on a cold December night north of the wall, however Ed is looking to overturn that result on his home court, in more temperate conditions. Next up Jamie Giddins (8) takes on Neil Mackenzie (11). Jamie is looking to continue his near-perfect season, as he has gone 363 days unbeaten in competitive singles. However, Neil will be a tough opponent with Jamie just beating him 6-5 in the third in the away fixture in Manchester. There should be some great tennis on show, so please come down and support the team.
