In our final match of the East Anglia pennant we played Newmarket RTC at home. Representing Cambridge were Gary Weller, Jim Ludekens, Alan Sharp and Ben Geytenbeek. We went into this match aiming for a 6-0 victory to keep us in the running for the League title. Everyone played and fought exceptionally well and we nearly got there, and were 5-0 up, but the opponent in my singles match was just too strong, so the evening ended on a 5-1 victory for Cambridge. This meant that we took second place in the League over the season. The final results table was:
Prested | 24 | ||
CURTC | 22 | ||
NRTC | 13 | ||
HHTC | 13 |
Many thanks to all of those involved in organising and playing in the pennant. Hopefully CURTC will manage to win next year.
Jim Ludekens
